"Cool Repose" - oil on canvas. The bird is from a photo I took in the Everglades, but it was just standing in some messy grass so I made up the surroundings of the bird standing in shallow water. I liked the backlit bird and I think carried it off here quite well (actually again using the glazing approach in the beak area). I was never happy with the backlit leaves ( not suitably translucent and also veins don't look real) and especially not happy with the opposite shore (and never really had a good idea of what I wanted to accomplish with it). The photo has light reflecting off the painting surface at the top left.
