This
one is a copy of James Tissot's painting "Hide
and Seek" circa 1880 or so. I have a small
poster reproduction from which I used a ruler to
locate about a dozen key points of reference which I
scaled and transferred to a larger wooden panel. Then
I painted freehand from the reproduction. Some parts
of this, not easily seen here, I like a lot - the
view in the greenhouse, and the lamp in the center in
particular. The little girl's face is exquisite, but
I'd have to say looks somewhat older than her years
because I hadn't yet read anything about painting
children and relative eye locations. She also doesn't
look to be the same person as the real painting, but
could be real. Oh, I should add that I did this
painting at my wife's request - we saw it at the
National Gallery and she liked it and obviously we
            couldn't buy it, so ...
