AllBoy
Oil on
hardboard panel, named "All Boy". This is my
son Travis, from a photo when he was small. I always knew I wanted
to do a painting of this one, and the art league
"Faces"-themed show was a good excuse. His twin
brother was mostly crying the day I took this photo, on the backyard
funhouse/pirate ship I'd built, so Trav got the pick. I was
torn between doing this in pastel or oil, but due to a time crunch
for the show, chose oil. Oil takes longer to make the picture,
but is a lot easier to frame.
One thing I
really like about this picture is the little scratch on his cherubic
little chin. That, and the fact he actually stopped and looked
at me. Now he's a strapping 20 year-old, and this picture
makes my wife sad.
