"Cool
Repose" - oil on canvas. The bird is from a
photo I took in the Everglades, but it was just
standing in some messy grass so I made up the
surroundings of the bird standing in shallow water. I
liked the backlit bird and I think carried it off
here quite well (actually again using the glazing
approach in the beak area). I was never happy with
the backlit leaves ( not suitably translucent and
also veins don't look real) and especially not happy
with the opposite shore (and never really had a good
idea of what I wanted to accomplish with it). The
photo has light reflecting off the painting surface
at the top left.
