Before the Storm

Acrylic on canvas, "Before the Storm", for a friend and former boss (I thought he deserved the painting for taking a thankless job that then I didn't have to do).  After I offered to paint something for him, he vaguely described a scene with running horses and a storm in the background that he'd liked.  I never found that image, so I made this one up.  Each horse is from a different picture I found, and the background is similar to a scene I recalled of someplace out West.  The sky was imagined.  I drew up the composition one day just like this - I picture the white light streaming from the back left and the horse split by the rock formation, adding to the dynamicism of the scene.
