Old Woman
Looking
Oil. This
is a commissioned work, from a vacation photo taken in a seaside
village in Italy. As I understand it, the village extends up
the hillside from the shore. This is an interesting image
because of the negative space. The large un-busy areas
contrasts a lot with many of my other paintings, and as a result
this one stood out when I had it in my studio up against the wall of
other paintings. The wall in shade was a challenge to figure
out just what color was it and how to produce it. The woman
went pretty well, easily - really nailed her look and
attitude. All the straight lines were a bit of a chore.
I especially like the lit wall and shadows and textures, and of
course, the old woman.
